After years writing bid responses on health, safety and wellbeing we are constantly exploring new ways of taking time out to protect our wellbeing and generate the energy and focus needed to keep creating winning bids. This month it’s all about breathwork.

Our June ‘Bid Break’ invitation is Box Breathing

We all breathe, taking an average of 22,000 breaths a day. Have you thought about how to harness the power of your breath?

The “box breathing” technique is used by the U.S. Navy SEALS to help them stay calm and alert. Why not give it a try to create space to boost your focus, create clarity, reduce stress and re-energise.

Here’s how to give it a go:

  1. Stop: Step or turn away from the computer and close your eyes

  2. Inhale: Breathe in slowly, ideally through your nose, counting to four

  3. Hold your breath: Hold your breath after you’ve inhaled and count to four

  4. Exhale: After holding your breath exhale slowly, counting to four

  5. Hold your breath: Hold your breath for a further count of four

  6. Repeat: Repeat steps 2 to 5 for a few rounds.

Next time you are in the midst of a bid or you’ve just finished another busy Teams call take time out and try box breathing. Just a few rounds can make a massive difference.
