Keeping your bidding mojo and motivation with inspiration from the Stoics

A few years ago we were introduced to the 'Daily Stoic' by Ryan Holiday, a gentle guide to Stoicism. Linked to our motivation playlist this month we've been looking at what the Stoics have to say on motivation and how this might keep us going in the heat of the summer bidding season.

The Stoics defined motivation as the impulse to act despite "Resistance" and we've adapted their top tips for getting and staying motivated to bid world.

  • Have a clear plan and structure for your day to avoid decision fatigue – use robust bid systems and hold regular scrums so everyone is clear on where to focus effort, this will drive progress and reduce time spent managing the day to day.

  • Win the morning – protect your morning routine and set yourself up for the day by taking time to eat, get hydrated, move and get outside before sitting down to write or review. This will keep your energy and mood up as you work through the day.
  • Journal – our minds can get full of clutter in the midst of a bid, journaling and making notes can help to free our mind for the mental energy needed in the heat of bidding, unlock creativity and act as a sounding board.
  • Read – take time to read at the start and/ or end of the day, it brings ideas,  inspiration and an escape from the detail of a bid.
  • Move – make time to move which will help keep your energy up and counter the time spent sitting at your computer.
