Another series of ‘The Traitors’ has finished, and this time – spoiler alert – a couple of Traitors won.
Not by dominating the Round Table, but by reading the room, knowing when to speak, when to stay quiet, and when to reach for a shield.
All of this sounds so similar to ‘the world of bidding’. On paper, tenders are rational with requirements, criteria, scores etc. But in reality, they are shaped by risk, politics, and who or what was ‘banished’ last time.
Here’s how the best bids play the game intelligently:
-
Anticipate banishment: Ask ‘what would get us ruled out early, regardless of score?’ Address those risks head-on before the client has to raise them.
-
Use shields deliberately: Decide where reassurance matters more than innovation, and back it up with evidence that the evaluation team can safely defend.
-
Control where attention lands: Make it easy for evaluators to focus on what matters most. Don’t hide strengths in the details or oversell things that increase perceived risk.
-
Build credibility through judgement: Show you understand the client’s constraints, trade-offs, and pressures, not just the technical solution.
In The Traitors, survival depends on judgement and timing. In bidding, it’s the same. Read the room wrong, and you’re out before you know it.
At ShineX, we help teams decode the unwritten brief, manage risk intelligently and shape bids that stand up at the Round Table.
